The Ascendant, or Lagna , is the sign that was rising on the eastern horizon at the exact moment of your birth. In Vedic astrology, the Lagna is the most important point in the chart. It represents your physical body, self, and overall path in life. It determines the structure of your entire chart (which sign falls into which house).

Why is my Vedic sign different from my Western sign?

This is the most common question! Western astrology uses the Tropical Zodiac, which is based on the seasons (Equinoxes). Vedic astrology uses the Sidereal Zodiac, which is based on the actual constellations in the sky. Because of the Earth's wobble (precession), these two systems have drifted apart by about 24 degrees. This means your planets will likely shift back one sign in your Vedic chart (e.g., from Aries to Pisces).

Neither is "more accurate"—they are just different languages for reading the same sky. Western astrology is excellent for understanding psychological patterns, personality, and character development.
